Job Title FRESH PRODUCE SPECIALIST

Responsibilites
  • Continually identify and determine optimum sources of supply
  • Manage service levels and inventory of assigned categories 
  • Make purchase decisions and manage process for order fulfillment 
  • Be responsible for procuring designated quality and quantity 
  • Minimize cost of goods
  • Minimize shrinkage/spoilage of fresh fruits and vegetables 
  • Manage marketing/promotional funds, rebates and payment terms 
  • Manage USDA inspection process as necessary
  • Communicate favorable purchasing opportunities to management
  • Support established logistical procedures to facilitate product arrival
  • Communicate effectively to all department supervisors.
  • Seek opportunity/buys;
  • Monitor and report items/categories/business trends within assigned categories;
  • Maintain awareness of market trends, technology and food safety;
  • Maintain awareness of Company’s marketing strategies and competitive activity;
  • Ensure that product recalls are completed
  • Participate in QA.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, vendors and company personnel in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Ability to provide consultative services and develop long term business relationships.  
  • Interact with customers and vendors in a friendly, timely and quality manner; ensure customers' and vendors' questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Develop and assist with equipment/supplies sales and support for customers.
  • Support other sales representatives with sales activities.

     
 
Requirements
  • Requires an Associates degree in a business related curriculum or equivalent and 5+ years produce buying experience, Strong negotiating skills,  Multiple task management,
  • Ability to maintain a moderate level of visual attention and mental concentration for significant periods of time as required by preparing and analyzing data, figures, computer terminals, etc.
  • Ability to manipulate necessary office equipment, computer software, hardware and equipment.
  • Ability to perform the following physical activities: fine manipulating with hands, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
  • The majority of the work occurs within an internal office environment.
  • Occasional work will occur in a setting where temperatures may vary.
  • Work is classified as sedentary with the requirements of exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
